Weekly Update at Introverted Reader

Welcome to my weekly update for January 17, 2021!

This week we’ll finally be inaugurating Joe Biden as our 46th president here in the US. I pray that this week passes uneventfully and the transfer of power is peaceful.

We took the picture on the left at Strand Beach on a walk last week and the picture on the right was taken at Oceanside Pier.

Up Next:

I need to choose a book for the Nonfiction Reader Challenge this month. I’m thinking about reading one of Isabella Lucy Bird’s travel memoirs. I read her stories of the Rocky Mountains several years ago and thought Ms. Bird was a fantastic travel writer, especially considering that she was a woman traveling alone in the mid-1800s.

  1. I love those pics! Beautiful. So happy the inauguration went off without any issues and it was so inspiring. Loved it! Looks like you finished up some great books and are reading some goods ones too. I love Stacey Abrams! I hope you enjoy week. Stay safe!

  2. I have everything crossed for you all with the inauguration! I truly hope there is no trouble.

Tristan Strong is one I have on my list to read with my son. It sounds like a good one, glad you liked it. 🙂

  3. You’ve got a really great variety of reading material there! The Snow Child was on my TBR for the longest time, and I’m pretty sure I read it for a book club but now I can’t remember much about it at all. Circe has also been on my TBR for a long time, as is The Song of Achilles.

    1. I had a great reading week! Circe was on my radar for a really long time and I finally bought it with a Barnes & Noble gift card I’d forgotten about. It was so good! I wish I’d read it earlier. The Snow Child was good but I don’t think it resonated with me (childless by choice) as much as it does with other women in different situations.

  4. Such beautiful pictures! I too hope that this Wednesday will be peaceful and a new start for our country. Looking forward to hear what you think of Stacey Abram’s book! Hope you have a great week ahead!

  5. I’m incredibly excited and incredibly nervous about the inauguration, too! I haven’t read Stacey Abrams’ book (yet), but she is one of my heroes!

    1. Stacey Abrams only came to my attention after the 2020 election. I didn’t realize how much she’s done to make voting accessible to everyone! She’s one of my heroes now too. I hope we see more and more of her in her career.

  6. Great pictures and a nice assortment of books too. I have Circe but have read it yet. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  7. I am holding my breath that Inauguration Week goes along without any further chaos or violence!

I am curious about the Stacey Abrams book. I have a stack of nonfiction books ready to read for the challenge!

Enjoy your week, and here are my WEEKLY UPDATES

  8. Such beautiful photos! Thank you for sharing. I too hope this week will pass peacefully and the inauguration will go without incident. Circe! I really want to read that one this year. I hope you enjoy it. I need to select a nonfiction book to read as well. I hope you have a great week! Happy Reading!

  9. Oh what gorgeous pictures! I miss the beach so much! I loved The Snow Child. I bought her next book but still haven’t read it though it looks fantastic. Hope you have a great week!

  10. Pretty photos of the beach/ocean. I know exactly where the Oceanside Pier is (I used to fish from it with my dad and brothers when I was in elementary school!), but I’m not familiar with Strand Beach. Is it in Dana Point?

Circe is on my TBR list! Hope you’re enjoying it.

    1. Yes, Strand Beach is just north of Dana Point. We wanted to hike Dana Point but the trails were closed because of covid. We could see a beautiful beach below us so we headed for a walk there instead. It was beautiful!

      Circe was great!

  11. I’m going to keeping my eyes on happenings in the States this week, I worry for what might happen considering recent events. I hope all stays quiet. I’ll be adding my first translated book to your book challenge this week to kick me off with that one!

  12. Lots of good books this week! I’ll be curious to hear what you think of Our Time is Now and Circe. Both books on my list – just haven’t gotten around to those yet.

And fingers crossed that this week goes smooth.

  13. I miss going to the beach…. It’s still off-bounds until the 15th of February. I think I’ll take stacks of photos then.

Did you enjoy The Snow Child? Circe is still on my TBR and I think I need to get a copy as soon as possible!

Have a good week and take care of yourself.

    1. Wow, I’m surprised you can’t access the beach. Is it because of covid restrictions? They closed beaches in California last March but they slowly re-opened them. They decided it was better for us to get some fresh air and exercise I think.

I did enjoy The Snow Child. I preferred Circe but both were excellent!

  14. We are all watching anxiously as your new president takes control this week. Hope it all goes safely.

  15. I am hoping and praying every day that the transfer of power is peaceful and that those who would use violence are stopped before they begin.

Your walk on the beach looks lovely.

What a great reading week you had. Tristan Strong. Fathoms. These both sound really good. Snow Child. Circe. I enjoyed both of these. And the travel memoirs sound great. I have those on my list as potentially future Classics Club material.

  16. Thanks for the lovely pictures, I do miss the sea…. I heard a lot about Circe, like everybody else I guess, there was so much buzz that it put me off reading it until a review changed my mind. It’s on my TBR now, i’m curious to read your own review. Enjoy !

  17. What lovely photos you took on your walk and I am pleased you have enjoyed so many books – I really must read The Snow Child and Circe as well. 😊 My week has been a good one and I read the stunning historical-fiction, The Phantom Tree by Nicola Cornick. Take care and happy reading in the coming week. 🙂

  18. What a lovely range of books you read, Jan. I absolutely loved Snow Child and wept at the end… I hope you loved it, too. I hope you’re enjoying Circe, which I also thought outstanding. Have a great week.

  19. Stacy Abrams really is the woman of the hour, I hope her book is interesting. I am looking forward to the inauguration on Wednesday and really hope it all goes smoothly.
