Welcome to my weekly update for March 23, 2025!
It was a fairly quiet week. We went to the Cherry Blossom Festival at the Japanese Friendship Garden and Museum in San Diego last weekend. It was way more crowded than we would have liked but the garden is always beautiful. Then on Thursday evening we decided to go watch the sunset at Moonlight State Beach in Encinitas. Even here in southern California, it’s nice to see signs of spring!

I’ll be curious to hear what you think of The Overstory. I read the first section, thought the writing was great, and then got distracted by something else. I’d still like to go back to it. Gorgeous photos!
Lovely photographs.
You are powering along with the Nonfiction Readers challenge!
Wishing you a wonderful reading week
What a pretty garden and blossom. I need to go looking for #2 Amari as I enjoyed #1.
Such pretty photos. Looks lovely. I know Who You Are sounds fascinating. Always wanted to read The Sun Down Motel when it came out, but never got to it. Hope you enjoy your week.

We used to spend a lot of time in Balboa Park. I think the first time I went was back in the 60s when we went to the Zoo and the Museum of Man. It looks like the Japanese Friendship Garden and Museum opened the year before we moved away. From the website, it looks like a lovely place, so no surprise it was crowded. Maybe we’ll go sometime when we’re in town visiting family. Oh, and Moonlight Beach brings back so many memories of times spent there, as well. We lived in Leucadia for a while in 1973 and would go to Moonlight Beach. I wonder if the La Poloma theater is still there in Encinitas.
You’ve had a good week of reading! My book group read The Overstory, but I couldn’t get into it. 🙁
Beautiful blooms! I love how you go see and do things in your current locale.

The Japanese blossoms look beautiful! I’m loving seeing the poppies, ceanothus, and freesias in bloom.
The cherry blossoms look lovely. We have a few things blooming but not the cherry trees, yet.
I’ve never heard of Down the Great Unknown. It sounds really interesting!
I have had Simone St. James on my TBR forever. I know I would love her books. I need to get to them.
Down the Great Unknown looks like such a good read—I’m glad to see how much you enjoyed it.
It must have been wonderful to attend the Cherry Blossom Festival. San Diego has the best weather, I think.
The Princess and the Goblin was my favorite book when I was around 10 years old, and I read it over and over again!
Have a good week… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
