Welcome to my weekly update for February 23, 2025!
This was a pretty quiet week so I started sorting through tax paperwork. *sigh* My husband and I did go to Old Town San Diego for a couple of hours one afternoon. We hadn’t been there before so we had a good time looking around all the shops and restaurants. It was a little touristy but it was so colorful and the food smelled so good that we didn’t care. We did not plan well and ate lunch before we left our camper, so we intend to go back when we have room for a meal.

Up Next:
I’ve wanted to know more about John Wesley Powell, who led the first official expedition down the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon, ever since we visited that national park ten years ago. I finally remembered to look for a book about him and settled on Down the Great Unknown: John Wesley Powell’s 1869 Journey of Discovery and Tragedy Through the Grand Canyon by Edward Dolnick. My hold just became available so I’ll start it when I finish I Know Who You Are. I also need a new audiobook but I don’t know what I’m in the mood for.
What did your week look like?

I really like the photos from Old Town San Diego, it’s been ages since I’ve been down there.
Thanks!
I have fond memories of Old Town! We used to go there when we were visiting my grandparents in Leucadia back in the late 60s. When we moved to San Diego, we would go down there every so often, eating at a great spot that is no longer there. It was called Hamburguesa. Lots of amazing burgers (my favorite had guac) in addition to Mexican food.
I would not expect a Mexican place to be called Hamburguesa! That seems like such an American meal. We really want to get back down there and try some of the food. It all smelled so good!
Such cool photos! Thanks for sharing. Love the cover of Somewhere Beyond the Sea. Hope you have a wonderful week.

I love that cover too.
I’d love to visit San Diego. I’ve heard it has the best weather in the US.
It should be interesting to read about Powell. I really don’t know much about him.
San Diego does generally have great weather, at least whenever we’ve been in the area. You don’t have to go far for that to change though.
Nice looking assortment of books. I am just starting to read some nonfiction after years and years of fiction only. Your nonfiction selections look interesting. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
Yay for nonfiction! I was strictly a fiction reader too until I started blogging in late 2009. Now I can’t imagine not having a nonfiction book in my currently-reading stack.
I grew up in San Diego and now may son lives there so we go often. I love Old Town and have so many memories of my father from there. It def has changed since I was a child but it still has the festive feeling it did when I was small
It does feel festive, even on a weekday when there weren’t many people there.
Old Town San Diego looks fascinating, I could imagine those food smells wafting around. I’m hoping to try Klune too like Marg. There is quite a bit of hype for the books.
They are such heart-warming books. I hope you like them when/if you read them!
Old Town looks like a fun place to visit
Wishing you a lovely reading week
Thanks!
I’ll be interested to hear what you think of the Klune! I haven’t read it, but I want to!
Have a great week.
It was so good! I probably prefer the first one just a teeny bit but these characters are so fantastic. I loved spending more time with them.
