Welcome to my weekly update for February 16, 2025!
I mentioned last week that my husband and I were relocating for his job, as we do every three to six months. As his last contract was coming to an end, a manager at a hospital where he worked a couple of years ago reached out to ask if he would be interested in coming back. He’s never returned to the same hospital because the whole reason we travel is to see new places in the country. But we like the area, some of his family lives nearby, and it can be really hard to find a place to park our RV that’s decently warm in the winter (We’re competing with all the retired “snowbirds” who head south in their RVs too). So we pushed the easy button and returned to the San Diego, California area for the next three months.
I left Twitter/X when it essentially melted down a few years ago and went to Mastodon. I still have my account but I never look at it. I was recently looking for something Twitter-like that isn’t owned by Meta (They already get too much of my headspace) and landed on Bluesky. If you’re on it too and you’d like to follow me, click on this link. You can always find all my social links in my sidebar.
I don’t have any pictures from this week but here are pictures from our visit to Flagstaff, Arizona back in November.

- The San Francisco peaks as seen from Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument. They used to be much taller but they’re volcanic and blew their tops thousands of years ago in an explosion similar to Mount St. Helens. Well, either that or they eroded away. I like the dramatic theory!

- Wupatki National Monument. This was taken at Wupatki Pueblo (there are several other pueblos in the park), where there are a total of 104 rooms. This was built around the 1100s, which is ancient for our side of the pond!

Hooray for returning to San Diego! It’s been a few yeas since we were down there to visit my brother and his family. I miss going “home” but who knows when we’ll take the RV back down. Too many other places we want to see. Enjoy the weather!
I’m on Bluesky but rarely look at it. The news is really taking its toll on my mental well-being. Thank goodness for books. I need the escape from reality.
Waving at you down in SD from L.A.!!!!!
How fun to return to San Diego. I wonder if you’ll see much changed since you last lived there. Welcome to So Cal!
The mother of one of my high school classmates was a victim of the Golden State killer so I am pretty fascinated by that topic. We all celebrated when he was caught!
San Diego is beautiful. Lovely photos.
San Diego is lovely. I followed you back on BlueSky. I love it there. It reminds me of 2011 Twitter.
San Diego is one of my very favorite places to visit, I hope you settle wonderfully.
Glad to see another Bluesky transplant as I’m so over all the Oligarchs having control over our communications but so many just don’t see it.
Hope you have a wonderful week!
Followed on you on BlueSky, I recently joined too 🙂 Those pictures you shared are gorgeous! I’ve also read Doomsday Book and liked it but my goodness if it isn’t bleak! lol

Bleak is the perfect word for Doomsday Book!
I wasn’t fully prepared for that when I read it! haha
How nice that you get to see so many places. Not sure I would be up for moving every three to six months, but so glad it works for you. Enjoy all your photos. I haven’t read Island of the Blue Dolphins in years. Hope you enjoy your week.

It’s a lot easier since we travel in our RV. We just clear the counters, unhook some things outside, and we’re off! I couldn’t do this if I had to actually pack and unpack all the time. I like being surrounded by my own things too much to rent furnished apartments all the time, though that’s what most travel nurses do.
Wow! I didn’t realize you move every three to six months! Wow!
We go to San Diego several times a year. Don’t you love it?
I loved your photos, especially the Wupatki Pueblo. Amazing.
My granddaughter and I read the Island of the Blue Dolphins series as a Buddy Read. I loved the books and the experience.
How lovely that you had a buddy read with your granddaughter! I’m sure you’ll both treasure that memory. We do love San Diego a lot.
I have been to San Diego a couple of times and would gladly go back! Enjoy your move!
Have a great week
San Diego is always a great place to visit!
San Diego sounds like a great spot to spend the winter—definitely a nice perk to returning to a familiar place! Those pictures from Flagstaff are stunning. I love the dramatic version of history too! Hope you have a great week ahead!
Why would anyone choose the boring version of history? 😉
How exciting to choose the easy. The RV life sounds amazing but I don’t know if I could do it as full-time as you all do. I’d love to hear what type of RV you have too and what you like/dislike about it. I’m on Bluesky, and everything else. I’ve found it really easy not to go to most of the others now. Mastodon is still a decent place but just hasn’t taken off. I autoshare stuff through FS Poster or Jetpack but Bluesky is the only thing I actually look at, plus some Discord.
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
I agree. Mastodon is fine but I somehow only see one or two people consistently posting there. That’s partly my fault for not taking the time to find more people to follow. Bluesky feels like Twitter from 10 years ago, when it was still fun. At least so far. I’m finding it pretty easy to avoid most social media too. I am the admin for a Facebook group of people who own the same RV model we do so I can’t avoid FB completely. I try to just open it a couple of times a day to take care of admin duties and then leave.
I’ve heard that San Diego has one of the best climates, and I’ve always wanted to visit there. It sounds like a perfect place to spend the winter.
I’m on Bluesky, but I’m trying to stay away from all social media except blogs. Recently I feel too upset when I visit there.
San Diego is a city I think everyone should visit. I’m not really a city person but it is a beautiful city. I’m trying to avoid social media too, for the same reason. I mostly use it as a way to share my links, in all honesty.
Kamogawa was a pretty good read, although it made me hungry.
I left Twitter as well.
It must be so cool living in all those different places like that. 🙂
I’m not a foodie so I mostly avoided getting hunger pangs 😀
It makes sense to find somewhere comfortable for the winter.
I’ve followed you on BlueSky 🙂
Wishing you a great reading week
We find that we don’t miss snow and cold temperatures at all.
It sounds interesting, but perhaps also tough to relocate every 3-6 months. I love seeing new things and places, but I also like to have a solid base to come back to. Wonderful photos from Arizona!
Traveling in our RV means that I feel like I’m always home. There are some tradeoffs for sure but we’re having a good time!
Many of my favorite political commentators abandoned X (which I never signed up to read) for Bluesky a while back. So I signed up for Bluesky but there was too much stuff there and I gave up looking at it. Now they have all started writing on Substack, which really works well for finding good stuff to read. And there’s a new outrage every hour or so, which means they have a lot to say.
Good luck with your stay in San Diego, one of my favorite places on the planet.

Social media and real media is so overwhelming at the moment.
