Weekly Update at Introverted Reader

Welcome to my weekly update for December 25, 2022!

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate! I hope you have some bookish gifts under your tree!

I’m going to keep this post fairly short and to the point. Most of you probably have family and friends to visit, new gifts to enjoy, or naps to take. I’m posting a bit early since I have some holiday plans of my own.

A Lot Like Christmas by Connie Willis, read by multiple narrators

Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing

The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie–I’ve taken a very long break from this book but I’m going to pick it up again after the new year.

I really don’t know. Probably something a bit meaty and perfect for reading in the wintertime but I don’t know yet what that might be.

  1. Since I am on vacation and away from home I haven’t even started thinking about what I am going to read next month. I am looking forward to getting home and looking through my shelves to decide.

  2. I’m reading A Lot Like Christmas in print this week! I was late getting my post up today. Still busy with cooking and baking the things I didn’t get to cook and bake before Christmas because I was sick with a cold!

  3. It’s the little moments of somehow averting disaster, like when our oven started smoking yesterday and we had to open all the windows, even though it was below freezing outside, and then we took the turkey out of the oven and the pan collapsed, and a big wave of juice poured onto the floor…but nobody getting hurt and nothing destroyed…and then seeing my husband hand my little granddaughter a present and hearing her say, “Oh, I do hope I get a book!” and it was a book and she was thrilled…That’s the mysterious joy-despair of life and Christmas…

    Merry Christmas, Jen!

    1. Your experiences encapsulate it perfectly. Thanks for sharing! I’m glad no one was hurt or damaged in the turkey incident. I hope you’re able to laugh about it in the future. Merry Christmas to you!

Oh, my cousin said she loved the look of Paris Sweets. Thanks again for your help!

  4. I like Rosamunde Pilcher books and if you haven;t read her book Coming Home, that (in my opinion) is very good. It’s meaty and covers a lot of territory. One of my favorites.

Merry Christmas to you and I hope Santa brings you lots of cool books.

  5. We’re hosting some friends for Christmas Eve dinner, but Christmas Day will be quiet and relaxing. We’ll probably watch movies, eat popcorn & candy, and enjoy the peaceful day after we open our gifts.

Merry Christmas to you and your husband, Jen!

    1. Merry Christmas! I hope your weekend is wondrous. I took a big break from The Satanic Verses as well but plan on getting back to it in January! Winter Solstice has been on my list for quite a few years. Even though the solstice has passed, I think I may still pick this one up in January. Glad you liked it.

      1. Winter Solstice would still be a good choice for January. January feels very bleak to me–all that cold with no real holidays to look forward to–so something heartwarming would be just the ticket.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who took a break from The Satanic Verses. I got bogged down in several biggish books at the same and just needed to step back from one of them to regain my reading mojo.
