Welcome to my weekly update for December 25, 2022!
Merry Christmas to all who celebrate! I hope you have some bookish gifts under your tree!
I’m going to keep this post fairly short and to the point. Most of you probably have family and friends to visit, new gifts to enjoy, or naps to take. I’m posting a bit early since I have some holiday plans of my own.

Currently Reading:
Christmas Days: 12 Stories and 12 Feasts for 12 Days by Jeanette Winterson
A Lot Like Christmas by Connie Willis, read by multiple narrators
Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing
The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie–I’ve taken a very long break from this book but I’m going to pick it up again after the new year.
Up Next:
I really don’t know. Probably something a bit meaty and perfect for reading in the wintertime but I don’t know yet what that might be.

Merry Christmas! I hope 2023 is filled with joy!
Thank you!
I really loved Christmas Days when I read it a few years ago. Such a good mix of Christmas essays.

Christmas Days really was an eclectic mix. I liked it a lot
Since I am on vacation and away from home I haven’t even started thinking about what I am going to read next month. I am looking forward to getting home and looking through my shelves to decide.
It is always nice to get back home and see our own people and things, no matter how delightful the trip was
I’m reading A Lot Like Christmas in print this week! I was late getting my post up today. Still busy with cooking and baking the things I didn’t get to cook and bake before Christmas because I was sick with a cold!
Uh-oh! I’m sorry you were down with a cold but I’m glad that you made the best of it and did your Christmas baking when you felt better.
Merry Christmas! Nice assortment of books. Come see my week here. Happy holidays and happy reading!
Merry Christmas!
Hope you’re enjoying your holiday plans. I received mostly books this year, which made me happy.
The books on your list look great. Hope you enjoy them.

Bookish Christmas presents are the best!
I hope your plans went perfectly!
Wishing you a wonderful week!
Thank you!
Merry Christmas! 😀 I hope you enjoy your plans!

Thank you!
Hope that holiday break goes well and not affected by winter weather. I enjoyed Winter Solstice but need to read it again!
Merry Christmas!
Thank you!
Everyone seems to love Winter Solstice. I don’t know how I missed it for so long.
Merry Christmas.
Thank you!
Endurance is one I have been looking at. Hope you have a nice Christmas today!

I really like Endurance so far but I enjoy books about explorers.
It’s the little moments of somehow averting disaster, like when our oven started smoking yesterday and we had to open all the windows, even though it was below freezing outside, and then we took the turkey out of the oven and the pan collapsed, and a big wave of juice poured onto the floor…but nobody getting hurt and nothing destroyed…and then seeing my husband hand my little granddaughter a present and hearing her say, “Oh, I do hope I get a book!” and it was a book and she was thrilled…That’s the mysterious joy-despair of life and Christmas…
Merry Christmas, Jen!
Your experiences encapsulate it perfectly. Thanks for sharing! I’m glad no one was hurt or damaged in the turkey incident. I hope you’re able to laugh about it in the future. Merry Christmas to you!
Oh, my cousin said she loved the look of Paris Sweets. Thanks again for your help!
Merry Christmas. The Satanic Verses has been on my TBR for ages, Ill be interested to know what you make of it.
Charlotte Burt’s Books
The Satanic Verses is not my usual cup of tea but I’m determined to finish it in January.
Merry Christmas to you as well!
I’ve had that Pilcher book on my list forever! Wonder if I’ll get to it this year? Hope you have the merriest of holidays!

I can easily ask myself if I’ll get to a particular book this year for a decade or longer. Too many books!
Endurance sounds interesting. May have to add that one to my nonfiction list for 2023. Merry Christmas, Jen!
I really like Endurance so far and tentatively recommend it.
Merry Christmas to you. Be merry, bright, and gay.
Thank you!
Merry Christmas!!!!!
Merry Christmas, Jen! I hope you have a fabulous week!
Thank you!
I hope you had a merry Christmas, Greg!
I like Rosamunde Pilcher books and if you haven;t read her book Coming Home, that (in my opinion) is very good. It’s meaty and covers a lot of territory. One of my favorites.
Merry Christmas to you and I hope Santa brings you lots of cool books.
I have not read Coming Home so I’ll add it to my list. Thanks for the rec!
We’re hosting some friends for Christmas Eve dinner, but Christmas Day will be quiet and relaxing. We’ll probably watch movies, eat popcorn & candy, and enjoy the peaceful day after we open our gifts.
Merry Christmas to you and your husband, Jen!
Merry Christmas! I hope your weekend is wondrous. I took a big break from The Satanic Verses as well but plan on getting back to it in January! Winter Solstice has been on my list for quite a few years. Even though the solstice has passed, I think I may still pick this one up in January. Glad you liked it.
Winter Solstice would still be a good choice for January. January feels very bleak to me–all that cold with no real holidays to look forward to–so something heartwarming would be just the ticket.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who took a break from The Satanic Verses. I got bogged down in several biggish books at the same and just needed to step back from one of them to regain my reading mojo.
A quiet Christmas day sounds lovely. Merry Christmas to you and your husband as well!
