Welcome to my weekly update for August 28, 2022!
Three weeks in a row with no real adventures to report. This must be some sort of record for me! My husband has had to work a lot of call shifts recently so that ties us down within 30 minutes of the hospital. We’ll be out exploring again soon though!
Posted:
A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow by Laura Taylor Namey, read by Frankie Corzo 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Ten Completed Series That I Wish Had More Books
Wild Rover No More: Being the Last Recorded Account of the Life & Times of Jacky Faber by L. A. Meyer, read by Katherine Kellgren 🌟🌟🌟
Read:
20,000 Leagues under the Sea by Jules Verne, translated by Anthony Bonner 🌟🌟🌟
Currently Reading:
Other Birds by Sarah Addison Allen–You read that right. I finished reading this last week but I inhaled it. I’m re-reading it more slowly now so I can actually take notes for a review (I’m hoping to post about it this week since it’s released on August 30).
Case Histories (Jackson Brodie #1) by Kate Atkinson, read by Susan Jameson
Through the Language Glass: Why the World Looks Different in Other Languages by Guy Deutscher
Up Next:
I would like to read The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie for Banned Books Week (September 18-24) but it feels like I’m currently on the hold list at my libraries along with every other reader in the country. I’ll probably check out The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas while I’m waiting.
What did your week look like?

I’m eagerly looking forward to reading Other Birds. It will be a while before I get it from my library. I ended up liking A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow more than I expected to. I only wish there was a list of recipes at the end!
You posted about some great books. I hope your break gave you a chance to relax before your next adventure.
I don’t know that I’ll actually remember (or plan properly) to read any banned books during banned books week, but you did remind me about it in time for me to get a couple of posts for the week scheduled. 😉
I listened to all of the Jackson Brodie books on audio. Loved them all!
I don’t think I’ve read a Kate Atkinson yet and feel that I am one of only a few who haven’t at this point. I really should get my act together on that. I also want to start thinking about what banned books to read later in September.
Nice looking assortment of books. Looking at your series post reminds me of series that I want to read. I have 2 & 3 of Posten’s series on audio. I really liked Geekerella and have been to a couple of cons, so I don’t know what’s keeping me from listening. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
I can’t wait to read Other Birds!!
Wow! Other Birds must be a great book if you’re reading it twice so quickly.
No outings? I hope you get to go somewhere fun soon. We’re off to Glacier on the 6th (arriving on the 11th). Since we’re traveling through Washington, Idaho, Montana and Oregon, I think I’m going to have to pack summer and winter clothes! I know it’ll get cold in the evenings at higher elevations, but some of the other places will still be super hot. We’re super excited about this trip!
Added 20,000 Leagues to my TBR!
It’s too bad you haven’t gotten to go off on some adventures lately, but I hope that will change for you soon. Montana is home for adventures.
Now I’m really eager to hear your thoughts on Other Birds.
A woman in our book club proposed Satanic Verses, but no copies were available at our library either. I think that might be a good thing.
I think having a break from adventures helps you enjoy them when you have them. 😀 I hope you have a great week!
Other Birds publishes this week? Oh dear, my review isn’t going to make it in time. I’ll have to hurry up and get to that one. I’ve read 3 or 4 of the Brodie mysteries but gave up on them and haven’t read any in a while – hope you like it.
Sheesh – these blog Sundays are murder on my TBR list! So many books to learn about.

Hope you get to do some fun exploring soon! 🙂 I read 20,000 a few years ago. It was prettyy interesting. Other Birds sounds good too. Love that cover.
You had a good reading week. Sorry you haven’t been on any adventures lately, but I am sure it is nice to be home for a while too. Have a great week!
