Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl asked us to share our top ten books of 2022 last week. I was out of town and unable to post much so I’m posting this week.
My goals for the year were to read 100 books and read less books than I did in 2021 (I have other projects I should be working on instead). I read 109 books in 2022, down from 180 in 2021 so I was successful with both goals! I’ve noted whether links go to my review; if I didn’t write one, the link goes to the Malaprop’s website.
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry
Hello, Star by Stephanie V. W. Lucianovic, illustrated by Vashti Harrison (Link to my review)
March: Book One by John Lewis & Andrew Aydin, illustrated by Nate Powell
Other Birds by Sarah Addison Allen (Link to my review)
North American Maps for Curious Minds: 100 New Ways to See the Continent by Matthew Bucklan & Victor Cizek, illustrated by Jack Dunnington (Link to my review)
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë (Link to my review)
The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Daré, read by Adjoa Andoh
All Passion Spent by Vita Sackville-West (Link to my review)
Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys, read by Jorjeana Marie, Will Damron, Cassandra Morris, and Michael Crouch (Link to my review)
Bonus:
My husband doesn’t read many books each year but I asked him what his favorites were in 2022. This is his list.
All Systems Red (The Murderbot Diaries #1) by Martha Wells, read by Kevin R. Free
Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
The House in the Cerulean Sea by T. J. Klune
That’s my list! Have you read any of these? What did you think? Link up every Tuesday at That Artsy Reader Girl!

Nice list! I also read A Raisin in the Sun last yera and enjoyed it too.
Funny, your husband’s top 3 are all on my TBR!!

I’ve read 2 of my husband’s top 3 and decided that I’d better add Dark Matter to my TBR after reading all the positive comments here.
The Hate You Give is such a good book! Dark Matter was really good too. Have a great reading week!
Dark Matter was one of my husband’s favorites. From all the positive feedback it’s gotten in the comments, I see I need to add it to my list too!
Remember, it is the quality of the books we read, not the total number that matters most. You have some excellent books on your top list!
Thanks for the reminder!
Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever planned to read less books….though coincidentally, I did read less in 2022 than I did in 2021 as well. I definitely want to read more this year though! Of these, the only one I’ve read is Salt To The Sea, which I enjoyed. Have you read Between Shades of Gray by the same author? That’s my favourite of hers.

Between Shades of Gray was my first and favorite book by Ruta Sepetys. I received I Must Betray You for Christmas but haven’t read it yet.
Mine too! I bought I Must Betray You last year but still haven’t got around to it either.
Great list! I want to read Other Birds. The Hate You Give and The House in the Cerulean Sea are also on my list to read.

I hope you like them all when you read them!
I am also planning to read less books this year because I have gotten a part time job, plus I want to try and read a few longer novels, we’ll see how it goes.
Good luck with your new job and your chunksters!
I’ve read Dark Matter and thought it was very good. I also have the other two books that your husband enjoyed on my TBR list! I want to read Salt to the Sea (have a copy in my stacks) and Other Birds. The Hate U Give is very powerful, isn’t it?! I will probably read fewer books this year since I’m going to focus on several that are over 500 pages.
I don’t think I mentioned in my post that House in the Cerulean Sea made my top ten list in 2020 and here it is in my husband’s top three for 2022. I highly recommend all the ones you mentioned!
I plan to read less books in 2023.
Your favorites were some of my favorites, too: The Girl with the Louding Voice, Salt to the Sea, All Passion Spent, March…
I’m glad to see someone else planning to cut back in 2023!
I haven’t read any of the books on your list (yet) but I have read all of the ones on your husband’s list. 🙂 Happy reading!

I’ve only read two of the books on my husband’s list but I just added the third.
Salt to the Sea is an amazing book. I hope you love it.
I already read Salt to the Sea but it was fantastic!
Great list! I want to read Girl with the Louding Voice but I did love The Hate U Give, Murderbot (the whole series is fantastic) and Cerulean Sea. I hope you have an amazing reading year in 2023 🙂
Girl with the Louding Voice was amazing on audio. I hope you like it when you read it.
Interesting that your goal was to read fewer books. Mine is always more, more, MORE. I should definitely take a cue from you and focus on quality over quantity and more balance in life. Maybe next year…
SALT TO THE SEA is a great book. It’s my favorite of Sepetys’. DARK MATTER is also a great one. Glad you and your husband found some great books to love in 2022!
Happy TTT!

I always want to read more books so it’s definitely a challenge to make myself read less!
I love that you shared your husband’s favorites as well as your own. Girl With the Louding Voice was so heartbreak and uplifting at the same time.

I was so incredibly worried for Adunni the whole time I read that book! “Heartbreaking and uplifting” describes it perfectly.
