I wasn’t sure if I was going to host the 2012 Dewey Decimal Challenge. I just don’t feel that I read enough non-fiction to be hosting it, but since I still don’t see anyone hosting a general non-fiction challenge, it’s once more into the breach for me!
The levels last year seemed to be entirely too easy for some of you, so I’ve revamped them a bit. Don’t worry; I’ve still kept the lower numbers.
The Challenge: Read any non-fiction book(s), adult or young adult. That’s it. You can choose anything. Poetry? Yes. Memoirs? Yes. History? Yes. Travel? Yes. You get the idea? Absolutely anything that is classified as non-fiction counts for this challenge.
I always like levels in my challenges, so here are mine:
Dilettante–Read 1-5 non-fiction books
Explorer–Read 6-10
Seeker–Read 11-15
Master–Read 16-20
This challenge will last from January 1 to December 31, 2012. You can sign up anytime throughout the year.
I am not limiting the challenge to bloggers. You can also link to a review you wrote on another site, such as GoodReads or LibraryThing.
Crossovers with other challenges are acceptable, and feel free to read your books in any format you like.
I’m signing up at the Seeker level. I’ll track my progress here.
- The Bookseller of Kabul by Åsne Seierstad, translated by Ingrid Christopherson
- On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King

- Sleeping at the Starlite Motel: And Other Adventures on the Way Back Home by Bailey White

Just signing up. I've read 6 so far, thought it was only 5, and sign-up for Explorer. Four more to go!
Just posted the link to The Maldive Mystery – it is not a mystery, but a book by Heyerdahl related to archeology!
I'm signing up for the Explorer level. Thank you for hosting!
I'm upping my game to Explorer, seeing as how I've already posted three non-fic reviews this year and am drafting another couple. 🙂
And I've finally remembered to write the actual post about participating in the challenge … d'oh. How's that for forgetful? (Although it won't be posted for another 15 hours. But it's done!)
I only signed up now… but thank you for hosting it, I was looking for something like this challenge!
Thanks for hosting this challenge! I read lots of non-fiction and was excited to find a challenge so I find other people reading non-fiction too 🙂
I need something to push me to read something other than YA fantasy and sci fi, and this is going to be it. Thanks. : D
I just signed up for the Southern Lit challenge, and now I've signed up for this one. Not sure which level I'll tackle yet, but I'm excited to start!
Since I read almost exclusively nonfiction, this is MY kind of challenge. Put me down for the Master level.
I'm so glad you are offering this again! Thank you. I've just signed up:

All signed up this year! Thanks for hosting again. =O)
Hi, I was really excited to come across this challenge. I think I'm going to do the Dilettante level.
Hope it is ok that I am asking a question in this space.
Being new to Challenges….
In this Challenge, are cross-overs allowed?? (I think that's the correct term? a book that qualifies for more than one challenge?).
Please let me know!
Thank you
Patricia
I guess I'm going with Dilettante; I usually don't have time to read due to school.
I'm going for the Dilletante level. I don't usually read non-fiction. I really need this challenge.
Thanks for doing this again. I read 25 books for this last year, so I'm going for the Master. the Linky has my 2012 post, here is my 2011 recap for this challenge:

I was hoping you were going to do this again! I'll sign up for Seeker too, thanks so much for hosting 🙂
Thanks so much for hosting this challenge! I was trying to find a non-fiction one that included all genres, so this is perfect!
Yah! I'm so excited that you are hosting this book challenge. I'm going to go for Explorer. Thanks!
I'll go for "Dilettante" level. If I end up with more than 5, that's good, but I'll definitely read at least one, probably more. 🙂
