The Innocents Abroad by Mark Twain–I’m so turned off by the way he seems to think everyone who isn’t an American is a dirty, lazy, greedy bastard that I’m struggling to read this. When he’s not going on about that, he’s funny and he has some great observations. We’ll see. It’s not going on the DNF list yet, but it’s getting close. Has anyone else read this? Am I missing something?
Up Next:
If I get to anything new this week, it will be The Odyssey, adapted into graphic novel form by Gareth Hinds.

Oh! I really hope you get to The Odyssey. It's not a very tough read in that format and you already know I thoroughly enjoyed it. And I'm so happy to hear you loved The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, I really need to pick that one up soon.

yes I am currently reading Innnocents Abroad. I share your reaction. I'm half way, and his sarcasm and getting too much for me. Not tender towards the Italians, though I do understand after my 1st time in Florence/Firenze some decades ago. and his dislike of religion does not help. But yes there are some funny gems, and also some nice descriptions of landscapes. I hate giving up on a book, so I'm sticking to it – a few pages of this ebook everyday. I have always had a love/hate relationship with Twain, and this book does not help.
I read years ago Engulfed in Flames and loved it. I enjoy all of Sedaris except his very last book, which I did not find funny AT ALL.

I need to read some Neil Gaiman, I have not tired his books yet.
I have The Woods in my tbr pile. I will be reading it at some point over the next few months as part of the "Books I should have read by now" challenge. Have mixed feelings on it as I met the author and he was horrible to the staff in the book store.
I plan on reading The Odyssey soon too. I have the Oxford edition but think the graphic novel would be interesting. need to look out for that.
I might put the Neil Gaiman book in my TBR pile then 🙂

I've got Major Pettigrew's last Stand on audiobook, your review makes me want to push it up the priority list. I enjoyed The Woods but I'm a fan of Harlan Coben's writing.

I love the name 'The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie' for a book.
Stardust was the second Neil Gaiman book I read and I adored it. Love, love, love.
I liked Stardust and really really want to read Major Pettigrew's Last Stand. I'll have to read your review of it. I think Lauren Willig's books are a lot of fun too.
