Since Banned Books Week 2012, I have been trying to make an effort to read more banned and challenged books, particularly classics, but want to make a more organized and formal effort this year leading up to Banned Books Week 2013.
DATE: The challenge will run from January 1, 2013 through the first day of Banned Books Week 2013 (still TBD) — the rest of the week will be used to wrap-up the challenge.
RULES: The only rules are that books read for this challenge must appear on one of the ALA’s lists of frequently challenged books — there are multiple lists split up by author, year, decade, & a separate list for Banned & Challenged Classics, so there should be plenty of options to choose from.
I always try to post only reviews of banned/challenged books during Banned Books Week anyway, but I do find myself frantically trying to read them all in September. Hopefully this challenge will help me space them out a little better throughout the year! I’m signing up at the Making Waves level–5 banned books. I’ll track my progress here.

You did so much better than me! Considering I hosted this challenge, I did pretty miserably at it myself… I re-opened the linky through the end of the year and added in your review links and wrap-up post to it — I was forgetting how many people would be wanting to wrap up all their various challenges after September! Since it's a small challenge & I was offering no prizes, I see no harm in bending the rules 🙂
P.S. I just put up a poll to see if anyone is interested in participating next year — would appreciate if you popped over to vote (hopefully the poll is working properly, it was a blogger first for me, lol!)

Hi Jen! I'm very new at hosting challenges and when I chose the image for this challenge button I chose one in the public domain, but inadvertently neglected to provide credit for the image.
