Shelleyrae at Book’d Out is hosting The Eclectic Reader Challenge in 2012. The challenge is to read a total of 12 books from 12 different genres. I’ll track my progress here. The genres are:
- Literary Fiction–Room by Emma Donoghue, read by Michal Friedman, et al.
- Crime/Mystery Fiction–Four to Score by Janet Evanovich
- Romantic Fiction–Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie
- Historical Fiction–Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
- Young Adult–Magic Study by Maria V. Snyder
- Fantasy–The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks
- Science Fiction–Santa Olivia by Jacqueline Carey
- Non Fiction–The Bookseller of Kabul by Åsne Seierstad, translated by Ingrid Christopherson
- Horror–Graveminder by Melissa Marr, read by Emma Galvin
- Thriller/Suspense–I’ll Be Watching You by Charles de Lint
- Classic–To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
- Your favourite genre–We’ll call it fantasy–Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor, read by Khristine Hvam
That’s more books than I normally like to commit to in a challenge, but I tend to swing through most of these genres regularly anyway. The real challenge for me will only be the romance and science fiction books.
This should be a fun challenge! Visit Book’d Out to sign up.

I am going to be signing up for this challenge too. My difficulty will be science fiction and horror. I really need to try horror because I had a library patron ask for suggestions of what horror books to read and aside from Stephen King and Dean Koontz (I haven't read books by either), I wouldn't know who to suggest to her. This challenge looks to be a good way to make us read outside the box.
Glad to have you joining me Jen! I look forward to seeing what you will be reading!
