Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl invited us to share our top ten reasons we love reading this week. That wasn’t really speaking to me since I felt that topic would get repetitive across many blogs, so I looked back through old prompts for other ideas. This week, I’m sharing the top ten books that have been on my TBR the longest. According to GoodReads, I added every one of these books on June 8, 2007. That’s over 14 years ago! I believe I found all of these through a bookish page-a-day calendar I had that year.
An Unpardonable Crime by Andrew Taylor
The Songs of the Kings by Barry Unsworth
The Sky, the Stars, the Wilderness by Rick Bass
All Passion Spent by Vita Sackville-West
Creatures of Habit by Jill McCorkle
The Sweet Potato Queens’ Book of Love by Jill Conner Browne
The Good House by Tananarive Due
They Shoot Canoes, Don’t They? by Patrick F. McManus
The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain
The Best Loved Poems of Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis, selected by Caroline Kennedy
That’s my list! Have you read any of these? Should I get to any of them soon? Link up every Tuesday at That Artsy Reader Girl!

I haven’t read any of these (although I’ve heard of a few), so no recommendations from me. Sorry!
I have 877 books in my Want to Read list on Goodreads. The first was added in March 2012 and is A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from My Kitchen Table. It’s still on my nightstand!
I haven’t heard of most of those but The Good House. I just started that one for a reading challenge. Looking forward to it!
Oh gosh, I haven’t read any of those books. I am now afraid to see what’s been on my TBR list the longest and how long it’s been there!
The Prince and the Pauper was on my list for so long I took it off. Ha! My TTT is off-topic this week. Please visit anyway?!
I’ve read The Sweet Potato Queens’ First Big-Ass Novel a few years ago (not the same one you have listed here), and laughed. It was an easy read, and gave this transplant a much needed Southern fix.
Here’s my TTT post: https://readbakecreate.com/?p=468
This is a great topic! I shudder to think how many books I have on my list from way back when that I still want to read. So many books, so little time…
Happy TTT!

The Sweet Potato Queens and The Prince and the Pauper are the only ones I have heard of, and I’m not sure that I’ve read either of them. I’ll be curious to see what you think of any of these books if you decide to read them, though! I know my reading tastes have changed a LOT since 2007 and I’m not sure I would still enjoy books that appealed to me then.
my TTT this week
Great list! As a Tudor nerd, The Prince and the Pauper is a classic I really should pick up.
I think several of these look awesome, and what’s more, they’re all new to me! Which is always fun- discovering new books. 🙂 Oh wait, not Prince and the Pauper, obviously. Speaking of, I haven’t read Mark Twain in YEARS. Anyway… that’s a LONG time on your read list!!!
I have never heard of any of these books except Prince and the Pauper, and I would definitely recommend that. I think they also have a Disney’s animation movie on the book (with Mickey Mouse)? I did like it quite a lot and I hope you’ll bring it out of the TBR someday. And bravo for being such an organized reader, I wish I’d kept tabs too!
