3 Stars out of 5

Title: Hollow City
Author: Ransom Riggs
Series: Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children
Series Number: 2
Genre: Fantasy, Historical Fantasy
Audience: Young Adult

My Review:

I enjoyed the second volume of this series but it didn’t quite grab me the same way the first one did. It’s been years since I read the first one so maybe the time lapse and/or my shifting tastes are to blame.

I feel the creepy old photos are incorporated a bit more seamlessly than they were in the first book; however, there were still some odd moments that were obviously only there to describe a picture the author really liked.

Parts of the story dragged a bit for me but I can’t explain why. When I think back on it, the action is fairly continuous. But there were a couple of info dumps, so maybe that was my problem.

Don’t expect any resolution to the overall plot because this one essentially ends on a surprising cliffhanger.

If you liked the first Miss Peregrine book, you should enjoy this one as well.

My Synopsis:

Picking up exactly where the first book leaves off, Hollow City continues the story of Miss Peregrine and her peculiar children.

  1. I had to reread the first two books. It’s a pretty satisfying ending once you keep on reading. But I do think he wasn’t planning on the series to keep going as long as it did. So he really dragged some stuff along, I felt, in some of the books.
I definitely felt the same about Hollow City. I do hope you finish them all! My son raced through the series once they were all out.
