New Narrator Reading Challenge hosted at The Introverted Reader

I was scrolling through A Novel Challenge looking for new reading challenges for 2016 and I came across the 2016 Audiobook Challenge hosted at Hot Listens and The Book Nympho and the 2016 New Author Challenge hosted at Literary Escapism. I’ve done these challenges (or versions of them) in the past and recommend them.

Anyway, some things clicked and I decided to host a New Narrator Reading Challenge.

I may be the only one, but I easily fall into ruts with everything I do, including listening to audio books. I’ll listen to anything read by Katherine Kellgren, Kate Reading, or Neil Gaiman, so I automatically gravitate toward them when I’m browsing my library’s website. I need to branch out and give other narrators a try. So–

The Challenge: Listen to audio books read by narrators who are new to you.

They do not have to be narrators who are new to the industry, they just have to be readers you personally haven’t checked out before.

Levels:

Eavesdropper–Read 1-2 books read by narrators who are new to you

Listener–Read 3-4 books

Sounding Board– Read 5-6 books

Audiophile–Read 7 or more books

The challenge will run from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016. You can join in anytime throughout the year.

I am not limiting the challenge to bloggers. You can also link to a review you wrote on another site, such as GoodReads or LibraryThing or post a few thoughts in the comments.

Crossovers with other challenges are acceptable.

Reading suggestions: AudioFile has some great resources, such as their Golden Voices and Narrators pages. I have a “narrators_i_like” shelf on GoodReads. There’s also a Best Audio Narration list on GoodReads that should give you some good ideas.

I’m putting up a post with a separate linky for reviews as well. I’ll keep a permanent link to both posts in my sidebar. That will be easier to keep track of which links are reviews and which are sign up posts.

I hope you’ll join me in discovering some new-to-you narrators! Just grab the button and sign up on Mr. Linky or in the comments below!

  1. I really liked the idea for this challenge and enjoyed doing it. It is too bad more people did not join in! Thanks for hosting!

  2. This is a great idea for a challenge! When I listen to an audio book, it doesn't matter how good the book is, if the narrator is not appealing to me, I will not like the audio book. I'm looking forward to checking out the reviews and discovering some new really good narrators. 🙂

  3. I love me some reading challenges, that's for sure. I don't do a whole lot of audio books, though, so I'm kind of waffling on this one.

I love to hear from you! Please contact me (menu bar, above) if you're having trouble commenting.
